ACCHL
Georgetown Halts Cavaliers
The Hoyas outshot Virginia 40-28 in rolling to a 4-0 win over the Cavaliers in Charlottesville to stretch their season record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACCHL. With 6:28 left in the opening period, the Hoyas scored off the rebound of a Charlie Walsh shot. Four minutes later, the Georgetown co-captain got a goal of his own, firing a wrist shot over the Virginia goalie’s shoulder.
The Hoyas extended their lead to 3-0 on a slap shot from Charlie Beller in the second period and finished off the Cavaliers on Walsh’s one-timer from the top of the faceoff circle on a power play. Next up for Georgetown is an Oct. 30 date with independent Liberty in Arlington

It’s Johnson & Wales Over GMU in a Thriller
It was Family Night when Johnson & Wales hosted George Mason for an Atlantic Division game Oct. 23. The family – some 800 members strong – had a rollicking good time and went home happy when GMU won 8-7 in a shootout, boosting its won-lost record to 2-3.
Johnson & Wales rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to go ahead 7-6, only to see GMU score a shorthanded goal with 41 seconds left in regulation play after pulling its goaltender to force the game into overtime. After five scoreless minutes, the teams went at it in the shootout. Josh Trovato netted the winning goal.
JWU’s Eric Kennal scored twice and assisted on two other goals in regulation play, then added a goal in the shootout. Teammate Marco Jordan had a hat trick and Michael Green and Bobby Brewster added a goal each. GMU was led by Matt McVay, who scored three times and set up another goal. John Freeman, Erik Gibbons, Don Liberature and Chris Shrieves got the other GMU goals.
VCU’s Balanced Attack Stops James Madison
Dallas Woods and Davis Deprez combined for eight points in Virginia Commonwealth’s 7-3 Atlantic Division win over visiting James Madison Oct. 23. Deprez scored once and set up three other goals, while Woods netted two goals and two assists. The other goal scorers for VCU were Max Greenfield (two) and Taylor Horricks and Tyler Smith one apiece. Mitch Allen, Steve Faulkner and Chris Martin got the James Madison goals.
Perlowitz Comes Up Big Again for Salisbury
Salisbury got four more goals from its leading sniper, Eric Perlowitz, to stop Christopher Newport 6-2 Oct. 23 in a Colonial Division contest. Chris Fox and William Frye accounted for the other two Salisbury markers, while teammate Jonathan Rodriguez racked up three assists. The CNU scorers were Andrew Dietrck and Kevin Koss. Michael Daugherty stopped 32 CNU shots for the Salisbury.
NC-C No Match for The Citadel’s Winton
North Carolina-Charlotte nudged The Citadel into overtime on Oct. 23 but couldn’t overcome the dominance of the Kaydet’s Alex Winton, who scored all four goals for the home team in a 4-3 Carolina Division win in overtime. James Hosea and Elliott Fallar scored two and one goals, respectively, for NC-C.
Catholic Prolific in Rout of NVCC
Two Catholic University forwards bagged hat tricks and two others scored twice as their team outskated Northern Virginia Community College 13-3 on the road in an Oct. 23 game between Atlantic and Carolina division foes. Bryan Abraham and Kevin Pecca scored three times for Catholic, with Pecca adding three assists for a six-point night. Ryan Gebler and Kevin Harding added two goals apiece, while Joe Hudee, Andy Miller and Dave Siemiesz each scored once. Scott Johnson and Michael Pighini were the NVCC marksmen.
Loyola Prevails Over CNU in Defensive Struggle
The Loyola and Christopher Newport goalies faced only 36 shots between them as Loyola built a 4-2 lead after two periods, then hung on for a 4-3 Colonial Division victory on Oct. 24. The Loyola scoring was spread among Chris Azzaretto, Phil Fusco, Chris Sliard and Robert Summerlin. Rob Fitchett supported the CNU cause with a pair of goals. Teammate Brian Bower scored the third.
Kaydets Can’t Keep Pace With NC-C
North Carolina-Charlotte exploded for four goals in the third period to race past The Citadel 5-2 on Oct. 24 in a Carolina Division match-up. Five skaters scored for NC-C, which unloaded 51 shots on the opposing goalie: Stephen Carbone, Drew Craig, Bond Danku, Elliott Fallar and Andrew Morgan. Andrew Blazier and Alex Winton tallied for The Citadel.

Ice Vols Come From Behind to Beat Florida
Robert Banks, Tennessee's leading scorer (11 goals, eight assists), scored his second goal of the night midway throught the third period Oct. 23 to give the Ice Vols a 5-4 win over South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference foe Florida at the Knoxville Coliseum. The winner, off passes from Kevin Jones and Amin Elaguizy, came on a power play.
Florida led 2-0 at the end of the first period on goals by Nick Cortolillo and Chris Pavlinec (his first of two in the game). But the Ice Vols outscored the Gators 3-2 in the second stanza to pull within a goal, at 4-3, after 40 minutes. Israel Ceja tied the game for Tennessee four minutes into the third period. Harry Cadmus and Jack Bradshaw were the other marksmen for the Ice Vols, who improved their overall record to 3-1-1. Scott Schilson notched the other Florida goal.
No. 8 Knocks Off No. 7 on the Road
No. 8 Georgia wasted no time picking off one of the teams above it in the ACHA Division III South rankings. The Ice Dogs stopped No. 7 South Carolina 4-2 Oct. 24 in Columbia. Pete Virk scored twice and Aaron Gottfried and Lee Bosma, last week's SECHC Player of the Week, once for Georgia, while goaltender Vince DiCarlo stopped 25 South Carolina shots.
The schedule doesn't get any easier next weekend, when Georgia plays at No. 1 Central Florida Friday night and at arch-rival Florida the next evening after the football Bulldogs have taken on No. 1 Florida.
Late Hoya Shot Hits Post, D1 Navy Stays Afloat
With Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley in the stands, Georgetown came within the width of a goal pipe of scoring a D3 upset of D1 Navy on Oct. 23 in Annapolis. The Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League Hoyas made it mighty interesting, all the way to the final buzzer, in losing 5-3 to the Midshipmen.
With just 22 seconds remaining in the first period, Georgetown halved Navy’s 2-0 lead when nior defenseman Charlie Walsh blasted a slap shot from inside the blue line and Alex Yale-Loehr knocked in the rebound. Navy extended its lead to 4-1 in the second period. Then, the Hoyas took charge. Freshman Peter Owens and Yale-Loehr scored on wrist shots to pull Georgetown to within a goal, at 4-3. Alas, Yale-Loehr’s shot with 50 seconds to go hit the post and Walsh’s boomer off a face off with five seconds left was blocked.

Augusta Ambush
FGCU Unloads on Clemson, GT, Richmond
Florida Gulf Coast, ranked No. 2 in the Division III South Region by the American Collegiate Hockey Association, won all three of its games in the inaugural Augusta Ambush, Oct. 23-25, in Augusta, Ga. FGCU got its toughest test in its opener against Clemson, winning 4-1 after building a 2-0 lead on power play goals by Charles Fradella and Nathan Altman in the first period. Clemson closed to within one on a power play goal of its own, by Christopher Latino. FGCU’s Kelly Johnson and Lee Khan rounded out the scoring in the second period. Earlier in the evening Georgia Tech, like FGCU and Clemson an independent team, had edged Richmond of the BRHC 3-2.
The next evening Clemson defeated Richmond 5-1 and FGCU clobbered Georgia Tech 13-0 behind Nathan Altman’s four goals and two from Kevin O’Connell, including a shorthanded marker. FGCU made it three victories in a row on Sunday when it downed Richmond 7-1.

Independents and Non-conference Games
No. 1 Central Florida Takes Two Up North
The day after it defeated Hofstra 3-2 and the same day it would be ranked No. 1 in the Division III South Region by the ACHA, Central Florida completed a sweep of its two-game road trip to the Northeast by downing SUNY-Albany 7-4. Four consecutive goals broke an early 1-1 tie and sent once-beaten Central Florida on its way to victory. Bryan Selicco scored twice for the winners, while Mario Munoz, Corey Bloxam, Anthony Esposito, Matt Heyens and James Stauffer tallied once.
Arkansas Preps for ’Bama With D2 Win
Arkansas, which will host Alabama for two games next weekend that will begin to shape the race in the Western Division of the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference, beat Robert Morris University, a Division II team, 5-2 at home on Oct. 23. The Razorbacks jumped in front 3-0 in the first period on a pair of goals by Taylor Shea and one from the stick of Brad McMahon, then maintained that margin the rest of the night. Justin Gaddy scored in the second period and Shea completed the hat trick with 12 seconds remaining in the third.
NC State Wins Inter-conference Match-up
